ply to new patients.Hopefully the patient is having their in-lab studies done at an accredited sleep lab that provides for a consultation w/the sleep doctor after their titration study and BEFORE their equipment order (script) is written and FAX'd to some local DME provider. I told the sleep tech the night of my titration and WROTE on the paperwork provided that night that I would NOT accept ANY equipment until the scripting doctor and I had the opportunity to discuss CPAP options and come to a mutual agreement on just what equipment he/she was willing to script and I, as the patient, was willing to accept.I also provided the sleep lab w/a WRITTEN request for 1] a copy of the doctor's dictated results, 2] a copy of the full scored data summary report w/condensed graphs from both my in-lab sleep evaluation study and my in-lab PAP titration study AS WELL AS that I be given my equipment order (script) so that I could shop my local DME provider options before committing to one. These are all part of your medical records and, assuming you in the USA, you have a LEGAL RIGHT to these copies AND the script under HIPAA. Your family doctor doesn't always FAX your medication script to your pharmacy, and when they do they ask what pharmacy you want to use; they also sometimes just give you the script to take to the pharmacy of your choice yourself. A CPAP script is no different. It is YOUR life, YOUR health, YOUR therapy, YOU are the one paying for it, whether thru insurance or out of pocket is irrelevant, YOU are still the one PAYING.
