Why We Need a Prescription

State Boards of Pharmacy and the FDA require all licensed distributors of CPAP devices to obtain prescriptions for humidifiers, all types of CPAP machines and complete CPAP mask systems, as they are considered Class II Medical Devices. These guidelines require a copy of the prescription be on file prior to shipping your order to any U.S. address (Please Note: You may order prior to submitting your prescription, and the order will not ship until we have a prescription on file).

Prescription Must Include:

  • Patient's first and last name
  • Physician's information, signature, and date
  • Prescribed pressure setting (Bi-PAP must include IPAP and EPAP pressures, APAP must include minimum and maximum pressure)
  • A statement about the equipment needed, for example “CPAP”, “BiPAP”, “CPAP Mask”, “CPAP Humidifier” or “CPAP Supplies”

Should I Pay Cash Or Use Insurance for my CPAP?

Reasons to Cash-Pay

  • Cash-pay discount (sometimes)
  • No compliance, prior auth, or rental requirements
  • No restrictions on make/model, so you can get exactly what you want
  • You have a high-deductible plan

Reasons to use Insurance

  • Once your deductible is met, your supplies are likely covered 100%
  • Sleep test, Dr. visits, and consultations probably contribute to paying down deductible

Bottom line: If you’re likely to hit your deductible (either through CPAP supplies or otherwise) you can get your CPAP machine and a regular schedule of supplies covered at little to no cost to you. (Even if the up-front costs are higher, it may end up cheaper in the long run.)

You may wish to choose cash pay if you A) have a high-deductible plan, B) want a machine your insurance doesn’t cover. As an added bonus, there are no compliance, prior auth, or rental requirements.
